Charley Carter, BSW

(They/Them)

Hello, my name is Charley and I am an MSW student intern from Aurora University. It is one of my deep held beliefs that every individual’s unique life experience and layered identities should be seen and honored. I believe in fostering an environment where people can feel safe and comfortable to unmask. I enjoy working with the neurodivergent population, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people of all ages. My passion lies in encouraging people to process emotions by tapping into their creativity and personal interests. In my free time, I enjoy playing tabletop role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons and other similar games. After realizing how many benefits the game had on my own mental health, I began running Critical Core RPG groups for children and teens, a tabletop RPG modeled after Dungeons and Dragons with a therapeutic focus.

In my work, I take a person-centered approach which involves working with clients to identify what areas of wellness are important to them. The therapeutic modalities I use include CBT, play therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and a strengths-based approach.

Outside of therapy I enjoy drawing, writing, playing guitar, and spending time with friends.  As a graduate level intern, I am excited to gain more experience in the field and build my knowledge base. It’s an honor to play a role in client's journeys.
